Delete Your Account
Raft, operated by Raft Ventures, Inc. (“Raft,” “we,” “us,” or “our”), lets you delete your account at any time. This page explains exactly what happens when you do — what we remove, what we keep permanently, and why we keep it. We would rather tell you plainly than let you find out later. For the full picture, see our Privacy Policy.
How to Delete Your Account
- In the Raft app — go to Settings → Account → Delete account and confirm.
- By email — if you can no longer get into the app, email hello@raft.social from the address on your account with the subject “Delete my account.” We may need to verify your identity first.
What Happens Immediately
Deletion takes effect at once. You are signed out on every device, your profile disappears from every surface of the app, any active match ends, and you cannot sign back in. Your email address stays claimed, so the account cannot be re-created with it.
There is no undo and no grace period. If you are unsure, step away from the app instead — we will not delete an account you have simply stopped using.
What We Delete
Straight away, and permanently:
- your sensitive profile information — sexual orientation, religion, political views, family intentions, and anything you told us about drinking, smoking, vaping, or drug use;
- your device records and push tokens.
After 24 months: your messages, photos and other media, voice notes and transcripts, your bio and profile text, and the Pings you created. We hold these for a period rather than deleting them at once because harm is often reported weeks or months after it happens, and because deleting an account should not be a way to remove evidence before anyone can look at it.
Backups. Residual copies persist in secure backups and are cleared on their normal rotation.
What We Keep Permanently
Some things are kept forever and are not removed by deleting your account. This is the safety record, and it is a deliberate choice: Raft helps people meet strangers in person, and when that goes wrong the record is often the only thing that can identify who was responsible and stop them returning under a new account.
- An irreversible fingerprint of your verified identity, your verification result, and any enforcement decision — enough to recognize a banned person trying to come back. It cannot be turned back into your ID document.
- Reports and blocks — reports you filed, reports filed about you, blocks, and the moderation decisions and reasons attached to them.
- Meeting history — the gatherings you created or attended, check-ins, matches and unmatches, and records of who called whom and when.
- Message versions you edited or unsent — the text and attachments you took back are held in a record that cannot be altered or deleted, including by us.
- A minimal account tombstone, including your email address, so the account cannot be re-created.
If a safety concern is attached to your account — someone reported you, you reported someone, someone blocked you, a child-safety flag was raised, or law enforcement asked us to preserve records — your messages and media are preserved instead of expiring after 24 months.
Your Rights Still Apply
Deleting your account does not end your rights over what we still hold. You can still ask us what we have, get a copy, have errors corrected, object to how we use it, and complain to your data protection authority or attorney general. If we refuse an erasure request in part, we will tell you exactly what we are keeping and on what ground.
Write to privacy@raft.social. We may need to verify your identity, and we will respond within the time your law allows.
